Aim is to encourage and support employers to employ people with disability or other barriers
Business name: I Am Ready Program
What is your place of business?
The I AM Ready program is delivered across Gippsland by a Partnership between the NDCO region 17 and the Gippsland Local Learning & Employment networks in Baw Baw Latrobe, South Gippsland/Bass Coast and Gippsland East.
The program assists secondary school students with a disability or learning barrier in the transition from school to further education and employment.
Why did you choose to be a part of GROW Gippsland?
One of the aims of the I Am Ready Program is to encourage and support Gippsland employers to employ people with disability or other barriers to employment. The aims of our program aligns well with the aims GROW Gippsland
What are you doing to support local business?
The I Am Ready program provides opportunities for Employers to host students with a disability or learning barrier for a work experience placement.
Support and training around disability awareness is provided to host employers
Why do you think it’s important to employ locally?
Keeping local talent in the local area ensure that our communities remain strong and viable for future generations. This is particularly important for young people who face additional barriers to employment.
Tell us about a time that you were proud to be a part of your business/organisation:
Following the progress of program participants from beginning to end had made me very proud. To see confidence develop as a result of building skills and knowledge around employability is very exciting. Then to visit students in the workplace of Host Employers across Gippsland as they put these skills into practice is the icing on the cake!!
Quite a few Grow Gippsland Compact members hosted I Am Ready participants for work experience.
