The journey of a business that started in a humble backyard shed

Name:
Marathon Electrical PTY LTD

Where is your place of business?
8 Dawson St., Sale

Tell us about your business:
Operating locally for 32 years, Marathon Electrical are electrical contractors diversifying into solar, air-conditioning and data, becoming a multifaceted organisation.

Why did you choose to be a part of GROW Gippsland?
We are at a stage in our development that believe we can get involved in the way forward for our local community and also, of course recommendations.

How has the GROW Gippsland program assisted or inspired you so far?
We believe that GROW has similar fundamental goals and beliefs, which we are also striving to achieve. Above all, whenever possible, local first. We need to look after and support our community so that we can all move forward together and grow together. Securing the best possible future for all.

What are you doing to support local business?
Marathon Electrical saw a need for urgent action to shore up Victoria’s failing energy generation sector. We entered into a partnership with Solis RE [renewable energy] to find a solution. We are now rapidly approaching the realisation of this immense project. At the onset we made it very clear that whenever possible local business, contractors and people would be employed. An emphasis has been given for the inclusion of people with special needs, long term unemployed and other groups. We believe in this so strongly that a reference will be built into contractual agreements. It is early days, but we envisage employment opportunities in excess of two thousand.

Tell us about a time that you were proud to be a part of your business/organisation:
I cannot pinpoint one particular time, but rather the pride in how we have all worked together as a team to reach the cusp of our greatest achievement. The entire journey from a business that started in a humble backyard shed to where we are today has been hard work but very fulfilling. We await the future and what it may hold for us.
