Meaningful opportunities for people with disability

Shalene Wilcock, GROW Gippsland Stakeholder Engagement Manager, recently attended a Victoria Alive session: Creating meaningful opportunities in our organisations for volunteers with a disability.

The key takeaway messages from the session included many that align with GROW Gippsland;

– Providing people with a disability with a volunteer opportunity is a great pathway to skilled employment.
– Inclusive employment support should feature in organisational policies and procedures.
– Volunteer positions should have position descriptions, formal induction, performance review and training/growth opportunities as per paid employment.
