Not just a source of timber, but a stable employer

On June 4, GROW Gippsland, the Latrobe Valley Authority and the Department of Education & Training, Victoria – Higher Education and Skills Group met with HVP Plantations in Gelliondale for a tour of their site.
The journey of pine throughout the whole site was displayed, from clippings and potting to boxing and delivery.
Staff return often, coming back season after season, including migrants and backpackers. Regular training also takes place, ensuring that the employees skills are up-to-date and to allow for the modernisation of technology and the science of the industry.
There are great opportunities for students to discover the science behind obtaining the ‘perfect’ pine and for staff to expand their skill-base in forest management.
